Mount Meru Extended

Tour Highlights

Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second highest mountain (after Mount Kilimanjaro), and its summit is just under 15,000 feet. You start and end your climb in areas where you’re likely to see wildlife in Arusha National park. In fact, driving to the trailhead is typically a game drive in its own right. This, our recommended route choice, allows you to rest overnight at Miriakamba hut after your summit ascent. On day 4 you have a reasonably short descent to the trailhead. Even though it’s a lower and shorter climb than Kili, Mount Meru is a tough climb in its own right and shouldn’t be under-estimated. It’s very rewarding however.  You’ll hike with other small climbing groups, assigned together to an armed park ranger for safety from animals.  But, along the trail you’ll be guided by our experienced mountain guides whose experience on Kilimanjaro helps in case of any altitude difficulties.  Our cook and porter(s) will carry your luggage and prepare your meals.  The park service provides simple but Western – style huts with shared bunk rooms and nearby toilet facilities.
