NGORONGORO AND SERENGETI GREAT MIGRATION SAFARI

This is a lodge-based safari to experience the Great Migration in the Serengeti, while also visiting Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park.  This safari can be booked by itself or as an extension to a Kilimanjaro group climb.

24 February, 2011:  Optional morning visit to a local primary school (donations of school supplies are most welcome, or SPS can facilitate buying & delivering school supplies if you'd like to donate money rather than bring items from home).  Drive from Usa River/Arusha area about 2-3 hours to the Rift Valley escarpment. Afternoon game drive in Lake Manyara National Park.  Overnight at Bougainvillea Safari Lodge.   www.bougainvillealodge.net.

25 FebruaryAfter breakfast, depart early for the Ngorongoro Crater for your game drive.  The Crater is a world-famous destination that is not to be missed.  Overnight at Bougainvillea Safari Lodge again.

26 FebruaryTransfer to the Serengeti Plains, game drive en route.  You will pass through the Ngorongoro Highlands before entering the Serengeti which means “endless plains”.  Outcroppings of rocks and distant mountains provide contrast to the landscape, and acacia trees stand out against the skyline.  In February, we expect to the find the great migration of wildebeest, zebra, and other animals around the Seronera (central) and southern Serengeti, both inside the park as well as outside in the Ngorongoro Conservation area around Naabi/Ndutu.  This is the great time of year to see the herds.  Usually the wildebeest have their calves in February.  Overnight at Ndutu Safari Lodge www.ndutu.com

Optional:  Stop at a Masai boma (village) and/or Olduvai Gorge on the way.

27 February:  Game drive in Ndutu or inside Serengeti, depending on where the migration is located.  Overnight at Ndutu Safari Lodge again.

28 February:  Drive back to Arusha area for evening/overnight flights home.

*** Please note you will need to add cost of lodging/meals for at least one night prior to start of the safari, unless you are extending from our Kilimanjaro climb where lodging Feb 23 lodging is already included in the climb price.
