Day 1:  Arrive in Tanzania in the afternoon or evening.  Airport pickup and transfer to your lodge for the evening.  All meals included starting with supper today.  Overnight at Arumeru River Lodge in Usa River village or similar.  Usa River is in a beautiful area between the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and Arusha city.   www.arumerulodge.com

Day 2:  Game drive in Arusha National Park with 2 hour walking safari with a ranger (if a ranger is available), or 2-3 hour forest or village walk from the lodge and relax and recuperate from your long journey by the pool (walks are optional).  Arusha National Park is a small park but beautiful and a bit of a hidden gem, with Mount Meru (Tanzania’s second highest mountain and an inactive volcano) at its center.  Overnight at the same lodge again.

Day 3:  Depart Arusha area after breakfast and drive about 2 hours to Lake Manyara National Park.  Enjoy an afternoon game drive through the park.  The Lake Manyara area is diverse with woodlands as well as open plains and the beautiful lake, with a variety of wildlife.  This is right at the edge of the Rift Valley escarpment which you ascend on your way to the lodge.  Overnight at Bougainvillea Safari Lodge.  www.bougainvillealodge.net or Gibbs Farm www.gibbsfarm.net

Day 4:  Early morning departure for Ngorongoro Crater game drive.  The Crater is home to many animals year-round.  Good chance to see lions, and possibly the elusive rhino.  Overnight Bougainvillea Lodge again.

Day 5:  Visit a Masai village to meet and learn about these nomadic pastoralists, some of whom have settled in the Ngorongoro Area.  Visit Olduvai Gorge to learn about the Leakeys' discovery of early human findings in the area.  Game drive en route to overnight at a semi-permanent or mobile tented camp in the Serengeti located according to the seasonal wildlife patterns.  Or, stay at Ndutu Lodge on the southern Serengeti border www.ndutu.com or one of the hotel lodges in the central Serengeti (Serena, Sopa, or Wildlife Lodge).

Day 6:  Full day game drive in the Serengeti.  During January though May, usually the great migration of wildebeest and other animals will be very visible in the southern Serengeti - an unforgettable experience.  You may drive among herds of animals extending to the horizon.  The wildebeest have their calves starting in February.  Overnight at the same camp/lodge/hotel.

Day 7:  Morning game drive and flight from Seronera (central Serengeti) or Ndutu (southern Serengeti) to Arusha. Last meal included is lunch today.  Transfer to the international airport for your late afternoon or evening flights home.

6 DAY OR 8 DAY CAMPING SAFARI, BUDGET-FRIENDLY OPTION (MANYARA, SERENGETI, NGORONGORO, SERENGETI, WITH TARANGIRE OR ADDITIONAL SERENGETI EXTENSION SEASONALLY):

Join Serengeti Pride Safaris for an amazing camping safari adventure through Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit, Lake Manyara National Park, the endless plains of Serengeti National Park, and the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater.  This itinerary is designed for adventurous travelers on a budget, who don’t mind simple camping.  You camp in public campgrounds with shared public toilet facilities (flush or long-drop type) and public showers (where available; may be cold).  If you are not used to this type of camping, we urge you to consider our lodge-based safari trips.  There can be animals coming through these camps, so while it is generally very safe, caution must be used – especially for those night-time toilet visits! – and children must be supervised at all times.  Meals are served outdoors.  Tents are rainproof dome-type tents using sleeping pads (no beds).  Bring your own sleeping bag or rent them from us.  Tents and camp chairs are provided.  Your chef and guide will prepare your meals and clean up, allowing you to relax in camp.

Your group will travel in a safari vehicle with a driver and a chef/camp assistant.  Your chef and all gear will travel with you in the vehicle.  Camping gear and luggage will be strapped on top of the vehicle while you are en route to the next camp during each transition.

Day 1:  Arrive in Tanzania for pickup at Kilimanjaro International Airport (usually in the evening).  Transfer from airport to a comfortable lodge or hotel in the Arusha area for the night.  All meals included starting with supper today.

Day 2:  After breakfast, visit a local school, drop off donations of school supplies, meet the students and teachers.  Drive 2-3 hours to the Rift Valley escarpment, where you’ll enter Lake Manyara National Park and enjoy a game drive.  Each park you visit on this trip is a very different ecosystem.  Lake Manyara national park is known for its tree-climbing lions, birds, and a variety of wildlife.  Overnight at Twiga campsite outside Lake Manyara Park.

Day 3:  After breakfast, depart for a game drive as you transfer to Serengeti National Park for your safari through its endless plains.  Overnight in a public campsite in Serengeti National Park.

Day 4:  After breakfast, pack up and depart for the Ngorongoro Crater area.  Game drive en route.  Overnight at a public campsite on or near the Ngorongoro Crater Rim.  Visit a Maasai boma (home) to meet and learn more about these pastoral nomads.

Day 5  Enjoy the world famous Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive and picnic lunch.  Transfer to camp at Twiga Camp in Mto wa Mbu.

Day 6  Visit the colorful village of Mto wa Mbu village.  The village has a market with souvenirs and art available for purchase, as well as the many beautiful fabrics you see the local peoples wearing.  If you are adding on the two day Tarangire safari extension, continue on safari (all meals included today).  Otherwise, return to Arusha in time for afternoon or evening flights home (last meal included is lunch today).

Optional 2 day safari extension:

Extension Day 1:  After breakfast, drive about 2 hours to Tarangire National Park and enjoy a game drive through the rolling savannah studded with baobab trees and wild animals.  This is a classic dry season game park where the animals congregate around water sources.  Tarangire is well known for having many elephants.  Overnight at a public campsite just outside of Tarangire National Park.  Please note:  during January-March when the migration is in the southern Serengeti, we suggest extending your time there mid-trip rather than visiting Tarangire.  Tarangire is best suited to the dry season when the migration is very distant in the Serengeti.

Extension Day 2:  Early morning game drive in Tarangire National Park.  Return to Arusha for afternoon/evening flights.

Prices include all meals, camping fees, driver/guide, cook, park fees (although they are subject to any government increases after the time of booking, which must be passed to clients).  Prices exclude airfare, travel visas, beverages except tap water, and tips.  Children 15 years of age & younger are discounted when sharing a room/tent with a parent.
